Debris from a multi-vehicle crash caused a portion of Hixson Pike to be shut down for several hours early Friday, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews arrived at the scene around 7:15 a.m. to find people trapped in vehicles off the roadway in the 7300 block of Hixson Pike. Both parties were transported to a local hospital with what are considered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined a Nissan Maxima was heading north on Hixson Pike when it crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Impala head-on in the south bound lane, the release states.

The affected part of Hixson Pike has since been reopened.
