Two Cleveland Middle School students arrested on gun charges

A second Cleveland Middle School student in as many days has been arrested on a weapons charge, according to news releases from the Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland City Schools.

A student was arrested Friday after authorities found a firearm that had been reported stolen at the student’s house. The student, arrested on campus, was charged with possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a weapon. Police do not believe that firearm was brought to campus, the department’s new release states.

The arrest came one day after another Cleveland Middle School student was arrested and taken to the Bradley County Juvenile Detention Center. The student has been charged with carrying weapons on school property, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, according to Cleveland police.

The Thursday arrest occurred after a student told school administrators of being shown a gun on campus Wednesday.

After officers received information the gun was off campus at the student’s residence, the gun was later recovered there and submitted into evidence, the department’s news release states.

In a statement, the school system reminded parents to have conversations with their children and report suspicious behavior to administrators, school resource officers and trusted adults.

“Weapons on school grounds will not be tolerated,” the statement said. “Please take the opportunity to remind your child that it is always important to immediately report any suspected presence of a weapon to administrators, school resource officers or anonymously through our Stopit app, which can be accessed through the Cleveland Middle School website.”
