Cameron Leary’s one-out home run to right-center field in the top of the 10th inning off Seth Halvorsen catapulted Boston College to a 7-6 NCAA baseball upset of Tennessee on Tuesday night inside Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Volunteers, who have been plagued by base-running gaffes this season and were again Tuesday, had their 11-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 11-3.
Tennessee went down in order in the bottom half of the 10th inning, with Griffin Merritt striking out swinging, Kyle Booker grounding out to short and Hunter Ensley grounding out to second. The Vols trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth but pulled even on Christian Moore’s leadoff homer to right.
Moore finished 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.
“We need to take this as a learning opportunity,” Moore said. “We as a team all need to clean up on things — communicating, base running, timely hitting. I don’t think we ever gave up in that game, but this one hurts a little more because it was a one-run game.
“These are the types of games we’re going to see in the SEC. I know fans may be worried right now, but it’s a marathon and not a sprint.”
The Vols will look to bounce back Friday night against visiting Morehead State.
START TIME SET
Tennessee announced Tuesday that the Orange & White spring football game set for April 15 will have a 2:30 start. Cost for the spring game is $5.
