An apparent low bid of $83 million was opened Friday for the state’s interchange modification project on Interstate 75 at Hamilton Place Boulevard with a completion deadline less than four years away.
Summer-Taylor Inc., of Johnson City, Tennessee, was the apparent low bidder among four construction companies vying for the project. Bidding was delayed by several months to allow time to obtain water quality permits and to finalize acquisition of the property needed to construct the project, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
“It’s very important to note that these are just apparent low bids and does not necessarily mean the contract will be awarded,” agency spokesperson Rae Anne Bradley said in an email, adding the department has 30 days to take action and the contractor will be named around Nov. 6.
Major construction affecting traffic won’t start before Jan. 5, and the project’s projected completion date is May 31, 2027, Bradley said.
For motorists already weary of area road projects, the coming construction nightmare is real.
