A high school volleyball powerhouse is emerging at Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences.

With a record of 65-10 over the past two seasons, the Lady Patriots will advance this week to their second straight TSSAA Class A girls’ state tournament, which is being held Tuesday through Friday in middle Tennessee.

“When I started coaching volleyball 20 years ago, our first match was the first one I had ever seen in person,” CSAS head coach Brandon Lowry said. “I was a baseball coach and they needed someone to fill in. I knew how to motivate kids and practice hard, but I didn’t know the sport well.

“Over the years I have learned a lot about the sport, but we are succeeding because we have a lot of girls who play volleyball year round who are very talented. I give them all the glory for this program being where it is now. I just set the practice times and try to motivate them and keep them emotionally in tune.”

The Lady Patriots (31-5) — who have won 10 straight matches — will open the Class A state tournament against Gibson County (25-15) at 3:30 Eastern at Rockvale High School. CSAS swept Gibson County, 3-0, in the elimination bracket last year for their first state tournament victory.
