CALHOUN, Ga. — The Calhoun High School football program is accustomed to having college coaches on campus after having several athletes move on to Power Five schools over the past two-plus decades.

Those college recruiters come armed with a litany of questions designed to see if the athlete fits their program, and they’re also prepared to provide answers in hopes of making the athlete comfortable with the school and team.

Most of the more than three dozen who have inquired about junior Emaree Winston were likely not prepared for one of his top concerns.

“I always ask them what kind of culinary arts program they have,” said the 6-foot-2, 238-pound Winston, who has played multiple positions for the Yellow Jackets. “I love to cook, and I hope to study the arts in college.”

While he loves to cook at home — a passion he gleaned from his grandmother — the majority of Winston’s cooking over Calhoun’s first five games this season has been on the football field.
