On the way to a career night in the trenches, Cameron Grider felt a special presence watching and helping motivate him to succeed.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Grider provided a game-changing presence on both sides of the ball in Class 1A top-ranked South Pittsburg’s 29-7 road victory over 3A’s seventh-ranked Sequatchie County on Friday night.

On the offensive line, he helped paved the way to victory as he sprung JaMychal Buckner and Kamden Wellington to 100-yard rushing performances, while Jamarion Farrior added 90 yards on five carries with three of those going for touchdowns.

Grider’s dominance on defense was even more noteworthy.

The Indians had no answer up front for the Pirates senior leader as Grider was overpowering on his way to finishing with 10 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and a pivotal 55-yard interception return for a TD right before the half.
