A man has been arrested for aggravated arson after he allegedly tried to burn down a house that had an adult and a child inside on Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the 600 block of N. Parkdale Avenue and put out several hot spots on the garage attached to the house.

But police officers who smelled gasoline called in fire investigators to determine the possibility of arson.

Later that day, Arthur Tatum, 36 was charged with aggravated arson for endangering the lives of the people inside the house.

Capt. Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division said the incident was related to a domestic dispute, but fortunately the fire died out on its own and no one was injured.
