The downtown site of Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly’s former auto dealership could hold one of the biggest apartment projects ever built in the city, according to a proposal.

A 10-story tower with 621 apartments, along with a 907-space parking garage, is the centerpiece of a development plan filed with the city for the former Kelly Subaru tract at Riverfront Parkway and M.L. King Boulevard.

Also, the 3-acre parcel could hold nearly 10,000 square feet of commercial space, according to the proposal filed with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency.

Mike Price of MAP Engineers, who is working on the potential project, said a restaurant is eyed for the top of the tower with views of the nearby Tennessee River.

If built as planned, the development’s cost could hit more than $100 million, he said by phone.
