Average gas prices in Chattanooga rose last week by another 12.6 cents a gallon to their highest level in more than four months and analysts said further increases are likely at the pump.
Among the 170 stations surveyed by the online price service GasBuddy.com, regular gas was selling Monday in Chattanooga at $2.37 a gallon, up 21.6 cents a gallon in the past month and the highest since mid November. But Chattanooga gas prices still average 25 cents a gallon less than the U.S. average, according to GasBuddy.com surveys.
“Gasoline prices have increased in all 50 states in the last week as refineries continue working toward cleaner, more expensive gasoline and as oil prices have continued creeping higher,” Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said in a report released Monday. “There shouldn’t be any surprises that prices continue to migrate higher given the warnings in the past few months, thought that doesn’t make it any easier for motorists to digest higher gas prices. Unfortunately as seasonal issues continue to weigh on markets along with higher oil prices, it’s likely we’ll continue to be in this pattern for at least a few more weeks.”
Gas was priced cheapest Monday in Chattanooga at the Quick Mart on East Brainerd Road where regular gas was selling for $2.28 a gallon.
