Chandler Davenport, a fourth-year educator at The Howard School, said her average day starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., although it can last much longer depending on whether she has after-school activities.

“It doesn’t take a mathematician to realize I’m putting in way more hours per week than the 37.5 that I’m paid for,” she told members of the Hamilton County Commission on Wednesday.

When she looked at her taxes this year, Davenport said, she cried. All that time, including differentiated compensation, equaled $56,503. While Davenport loves her students and her work, she said that fulfillment does not make up for the fact educators do not make enough money.
