A Chattanooga man who was accused of second-degree murder had the charge against him dismissed, according to Hamilton County Criminal Court records.

Christopher Marcus Lyles, 37, also had possession of cocaine for resale and false reports charges dismissed Thursday in front of Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Boyd Patterson.

Lyles pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempting to possess fentanyl for resale and was sentenced to three years in prison, which was suspended, a judgment document said.

Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp referred questions to prosecutor Andrew Coyle, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what led to the charges against Lyles being dismissed.

Lyles and co-defendant Melvin Lee Jackson were accused of distributing fentanyl on or before June 16, 2022, which resulted in the death of Glenn Tony McCain, an indictment said.

No additional details about McCain’s death were publicly available.

The second-degree murder charge against Jackson was also dismissed in September 2023.

Although Lyles’ prison sentence was suspended, he remains held without bond at the Hamilton County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office website.

He is allegedly wanted for a crime committed in Catoosa County and signed a waiver Friday to be voluntarily transferred across state lines, according to the General Sessions Court clerk’s office.
