From making incredibly tough plays look routine at shortstop, with great range and a 90-plus mile per hour arm, to having some of the best pure power of any prep hitter in the area, Brodie Johnston has an extremely bright future.

Johnston’s complete arsenal has drawn tremendous attention from Major League Baseball scouts, while his talent has also warranted a scholarship to Vanderbilt.

“Brodie has had a lot of attention from Major League clubs,” Boyd Buchanan baseball coach Stephen Pryor said. “I am excited for what he is going to do in the future. I firmly believe one day he will be a big leaguer.”

Instead of dreaming of the future, Johnston is locked-in on the present and helping the Buccaneers bring home their first TSSAA state championship at this week’s Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.

The superstar talent, whose game has drawn comparisons to Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr., has set the tone for one of the most complete teams in the state. The Bucs (33-5) will face Goodpasture (31-11-1) in the Division II-A semifinals at 7:30 ET Tuesday from Middle Tennessee Christian School.
