Cynical if not illegal

As Alice said in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” things are getting “curiouser and curiouser.”

We’re referring to the residency case of Chattanooga City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod, which was heard in Hamilton County Circuit Court Thursday.

The new wrinkle in the case is that Coonrod recently married, but her husband testified that they live at different addresses in order for Coonrod to live in her council district with her foster mother. He also testified that the two planned to live in the home she purchased in 2022 — which is not in the city — when her residency was no longer an issue.

That’s the same home she was required to declare under penalty of perjury on her mortgage agreement would be her primary residence within 60 days of signing, the same home she has said she intended to use as a short-term vacation rental but never did and the same home she now allows her daughter to use but pays minimal costs to occupy.
