Three years ago, Arkansas won nine games and posted double-digit drubbings of Texas, Texas A&M and Penn State.

Two years ago, South Carolina assembled an eight-win season and eliminated Tennessee and Clemson from the College Football Playoff picture on consecutive weekends.

Success can be attained quickly but can also be fleeting in the Southeastern Conference, as Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks and Sam Pittman’s Razorbacks combined to go 9-15 last season and this past Friday were picked to finished 13th and 14th in this year’s inaugural 16-team race.

“I really, really, really like our football team going into 2024,” Beamer said last week during SEC media days in Dallas. “Most you don’t, and that’s okay. I’m excited about this group. We have a lot of really good young talent on this football team with veteran leadership. We have over 20 players on our team who are going into their fifth season or more of college football.
