A devastating fire destroyed the Cookie Jar Cafe, one of Dunlap, Tennessee‘s favorite restaurants, in the summer of 2023. Its blue roof was a landmark as drivers crested the hill where Highway 111 North dips down into the Sequatchie Valley.

Now, though, less than a year later, it’s back. Though the blue roof is history, the wide front porch, filled with rocking chairs, is a familiar, welcoming sight, as are amazing views of the mountains.

THE MENU

The Cookie Jar Café has long been known for its Southern specialties, and as any Southerner knows, that means a lot of fried foods. In fact, as you gaze down the menu, those are mainly what you’ll find: fried pickles, fried mushrooms, fried tenders, fried chicken livers, fried okra. Get the picture, y’all?
