Here are the five biggest surprises from last week’s high school football action from across the Greater Chattanooga area:
1. Surging Sequatchie
For a second straight week, late-game heroics by Sequatchie County meant the celebration in Dunlap lasted well into the night.
“The kids and fans were really excited,” Indians coach Rusty McIntyre said the day after his team knocked off Class 2A’s second-ranked Marion County 13-10 on a 39-yard field goal by Will Machado as time expired. The previous week the Indians (4-1) stopped a two-point try by South Pittsburg with less than a minute remaining to claim a one-point road win.
After a season-opening loss at rival Bledsoe County, the Indians have reeled of four straight impressive wins and moved up to No. 6 in Class 3A in the latest statewide rankings.
