Parents of Whitfield County students have accused the school district’s bus service of dropping off children in unsafe conditions, leading to a review of district procedures.

Raven Tate, mother of a 4-year-old student, said her daughter was dropped off one day last month at an abandoned house, frightening the mother and daughter — and involving law enforcement.

“They’re dropping these babies off,” mistakenly, Tate said in a phone call. “The two they dropped off are safe now, but that may not always be the outcome in another case.”

When the district’s superintendent was emailed for comment, spokesperson Kristina Horsley responded, saying reported incidents, including the one involving Tate’s daughter, were investigated with no policy violations found this school year. The school system procedures were reviewed, she said, and reinforced with more training of bus drivers, who are district employees.
