Two groups looking to open charter schools with mixed-grade elementary classrooms are seeking approval from the Hamilton County Board of Education this spring.

Tennessee Wildflower Public Charter and Little Kings and Queens Charter Academy submitted charter applications by Hamilton County Schools’ deadline earlier this month.

Little Kings and Queens would be designed to meet the needs of East Ridge’s diverse population and Tennessee Wildflower would be focused on enrolling marginalized students for a Montessori education, according to the schools’ applications. Montessori is an educational philosophy that incorporates student-led learning in multiage classrooms.
