Stop the naming craze
Could we please stop all the sycophantic virtue signalling from Republican legislators by suggesting we rename this and that after President Donald Trump?
A short list includes renaming Washington Dulles International Airport in honor of the 45th and 47th president, the Nashville International Airport and the highest point in West Virginia, Spruce Nob. Plus, there also have been bills introduced that would add the president’s face to Mount Rushmore and make June 14 — already Flag Day — a holiday because it is the same day as Trump’s birthday.
During the president’s first term, some conservatives wanted to place Trump’s face on the $500 bill, which hasn’t been in circulation since 1969. Presumably, the bills — which had on them the face of President William McKinley, a chief executive Trump admires — would have gone back into circulation.
The latest, co-sponsored by a Tennessee U.S. House member, Diana Harshbarger, R-Kingsport, would have the Treasury create and put Trump’s face on a $250 bill. The reason for the $250 designation, said sponsor U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-South Carolina, is to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.
