Three Hamilton County candidates advance to Gov. Bill Lee for circuit court consideration

Three Hamilton County attorneys were selected Tuesday to be considered by Gov. Bill Lee for a circuit court judgeship after nearly seven hours of interviews and rounds of voting.

Trial Court Vacancy Commission members nominated Christina R. Mincy, Jennifer K. Peck and William Matthew Wayne. One of whom will ultimately fill a Hamilton County Circuit Court vacancy.

“We are proud of our judges,” Commission Chair Bill Koch said at the Chattanoogan Hotel. “We are not perfect. None of us are.”

Charles W. Gilbreath II and Patrick Alan Wagner also made a bid for the seat but did not receive enough votes to move forward.

Most of the commissioners’ interview questions were geared toward life experiences, moral dilemmas and hypothetical legal situations that a circuit court judge might run into. Commissioner David Purkey asked several candidates what their views were on the death penalty in Tennessee. Commissioner Tom Lawless asked a couple applicants about their favorite baseball team.
