The Hamilton County Republican Party has passed a resolution in support of Senate Bill 836, a bill carried by state Sen. Bo Watson, R-North Chattanooga, that would allow schools to deny enrollment to unauthorized immigrant students.

The resolution was voted on by the county executive committee of the party on Monday at its first meeting under its newly elected leadership.

The document is titled, “A Resolution of The Hamilton County Republican Party In Support Of Senator Watson and Efforts to Restore Local Control and Integrity to Tennessee’s Public School Enrollment Process.”

Requiring families to provide documentation of immigration status in order to enroll their children in schools is a reasonable and standard expectation, the document said.
