DUNLAP — Hali Huff is carrying on a family tradition after being sworn in this year as Sequatchie County’s first female constable.

Huff, 31, comes from a line of Sequatchie County constables and sheriffs, all men.

Her great-grandfather, Ray Harmon, was a sheriff. Her father, Alton Harmon, was a constable. Her uncle, Coy Swanger, was sheriff from 2020 to 2024. And her husband works in corrections in Georgia and on an undercover law enforcement team. For her day job, Huff works for HealthStream, a software and technical company.

“I want to be part of the community. I want to be able to help people,” Huff said over a cup at the Sunny Valley Coffee Shop in downtown Dunlap, the county seat. “I want to be a resource they can rely on.”

Huff admits she’s learning as she goes and plans to attend the required 40 hours of annual law enforcement training soon. Huff hopes she can use her post as an example to her second grade daughter of facing challenges head-on.
