FLINTSTONE, Ga. — Abigail Cofer hasn’t slept through the night in weeks.

Cofer, a Soddy-Daisy resident, found out April 30 that her position at Deployed Services, a federal contractor, was part of a wave of layoffs due to federal cost-cutting efforts.

“I was heartbroken with the layoff news,” Cofer said in an interview, “not just because it affected my income, but because this was my favorite job I’ve ever had.”

Cofer, 28, was born in Jackson, Tennessee, and has lived in Hamilton County since 2011.

She started working at Deployed Services in January 2024 in a newly created role focused on employee engagement and employee experience.
