Storms that brought up to 70 mph winds to the Chattanooga area on Saturday afternoon left thousands without power.

EPB reported nearly 12,000 customers without power in its service area around 5:50 p.m. Saturday. “Severe weather has caused infrastructure damage across the Chattanooga area. EPB crews are working as quickly as possible to restore electric and fiber optic services,” the utility reported on it website.

Local 3 News reported about 3,400 people without power in Bradley County, about 2,300 in Grundy County, just over 5,000 in Whitfield County and about 1,500 in Walker County.

EPB warned people not to approach downed power lines. EPB customers were encouraged to report them to the utility or to call 911.
