Opinion: The GOP is a death cult

For all the GOP’s talk of leading this nation to newfound success, to some type of national rebirth, the MAGA movement led by President Donald Trump seems to promote one thing above all: death.

Look no further than Trump’s so-called big, beautiful bill. It is perhaps one of the most monstrous — and soon-to-be deadly — pieces of legislation in U.S. history.

Due to senseless work requirements on Medicaid included in the bill — which would roughly constitute a $1 trillion funding cut to a program that primarily provides coverage to low-income individuals — nearly 12 million people are estimated to lose health insurance over the next decade.

The legislation, in its current form, also seeks to cut funding to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps, by $287 billion over the next 10 years. These cuts are estimated to kick over three million people off the program.

This would, of course, cut off access to proper nutrition for millions of people, leading to more food insecurity, which, according to the health policy news outlet KFF, is “associated with multiple chronic conditions, poorer self-reported health status, higher health care utilization, and lower rates of medication adherence.”
