Hamilton County Schools is implementing updated security protocols for athletic events and Board of Education meetings, the district announced Monday.
“These steps are being taken with care and consideration to ensure our events and meetings remain accessible and secure for all,” the district said in a message to families and staff.
The new safety protocols take effect immediately.
ATHLETICS
The new athletic protocols are for Friday night football and basketball games, as well as other athletic events as necessary, the district said.
Under the new protocols, students will only be admitted with a school-issued ticket or if they are identified as a student at a school playing at the event. Those under the age of 18 who are not affiliated with a participating school will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All attendees will be screened by a hand-held or walk-through metal detector upon entry and undergo a bag check. Bags must be clear or smaller than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches, though diaper bags and medically necessary bags will continue to be allowed.
Face coverings of any kind are prohibited.
BOARD MEETINGS
Under the new protocols for school board meetings, seating for community members will be limited to the first 120 people to arrive. The district may reserve additional seating for those presenting or being recognized.
Those who have signed up for public comment but are not one of the 120 people admitted will be allowed to enter to speak. Speakers will be called in to give their remarks and then must immediately exit the room once finished.
All attendees will be screened by a hand-held or walk-through metal detector upon entry and undergo a bag check. Weapons, sharp objects, large signs, sticks, poles and any other items deemed unsafe by security are prohibited.
The next school board meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
