Side Orders: Chocolate ganache elevates pound cake

Who doesn’t love a good pound cake? There’s just something about its moist center and crispy outside that makes it almost irresistible.

My mother used to make the best pound cakes I’d ever put in my mouth. She used sour cream, and I think that’s what made each bite mouthwateringly delicious. She often made them for others because there was just something about the way she made them that others couldn’t duplicate.

It may have been the pan she used, her oven or just her special touch. I still love making her pound cake, but I have found cream cheese makes a pound cake that’s equally delicious, if not more so. Sorry, Mom!

Drizzle a chocolate ganache over top, and you have the makings of a cake you’ll want to keep all to yourself. Particularly for all you chocolate addicts, a category into which I place myself. There are times when nothing but the taste of chocolate will do. You know who you are.
