Gov. Bill Lee has signed a proclamation designating Oct. 12-19 of this year as Minority Enterprise Development Week in Tennessee.
The proclamation, which mirrors a tradition begun in 1983 by then-President Ronald Reagan, describes the week as an opportunity for minority-owned businesses to access resources, tools and networking events to grow their operations.
“Minority Enterprise Development Week is designated as a time to commemorate the vital contributions of minority entrepreneurs and businesses to our economic strength,” proclaims the document, which Lee signed on Sept. 16.
Lee’s office did not publicly announce the proclamation but news of it was included in a press release from the office of Rep. Karen Camper, D-Memphis, who is co-sponsoring a summit in Nashville with various business organizations.
Camper’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the summit. Lee’s office also did not respond to a request for comment.
