Three months after Chattanooga Police Chief John Chambers announced the city would install speed cameras at 10 school zones to curb dangerous driving, crews have begun working on the project.
City officials confirmed that the rollout is still in its early stages. So far, at least three silver poles have been installed at Brainerd High School and Orchard Knob Elementary, but they do not have cameras attached to them.
“Our goal is to improve the safety of everyone traveling in and around our schools,” city spokesperson Stephanie Cepak said in an emailed statement. “The city is phasing in this project. Providing more information to students, families, teachers and staff as the new school year begins next month is part of that phase in.”
