Walden seeks options for trash pickup

The town of Walden is back at square one in regards to options for garbage pickup.

Mayor David Epperson announced at the March 11 regularly scheduled town meeting that the town is again seeking bids for a garbage service provider.

Early last fall, Allied Waste Services presented a proposal for renewing its contract with the town, but town officials have since been unable to come to a consensus on the contract. (Refer to previous coverage here.)

“What we wanted is a clean contract where there’s no ambiguity about which entity we are dealing with,” Epperson explained. “We could never come to conclusive terms of the contract.”

According to him, the Allied Waste contract also mentioned the entities Browning-Ferris Industries and Republic Services. It is town officials’ preference to only deal with one service provider, he said.
