Hamilton County schools may get millions more to renovate if a resolution passes the County Commission.
The resolution would grant $13.5 million in bond funds for a couple dozen projects presented and approved by the school board earlier this month. About half of that money will go toward turf fields, while the rest will funnel into a variety of projects, like new paving, flooring and roof renovations.
“This is work that has been wanted in these communities for a really long time,” commission Chair Ken Smith, R-Hixson, said during the panel’s Wednesday agenda meeting. “We are listening.”
The priciest project on the list is a stadium and turf field for the Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences, with a cost of $4.5 million. During the meeting, County Mayor Weston Wamp said that the school was an outlier, due to it being a historic facility with “unusual needs.” Otherwise, he found the list of projects to be spread evenly across the county, he said.
