Silverdale Baptist Academy junior Luke Burger has nearly had to pinch himself at the amount of high-level interest he has received from college football programs over the past four months.
Burger — 6-foot-7, 275-pound lineman who has a 6-foot-10 wingspan — has received offers from Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisville, Miami of Ohio, Wake Forest and, most recently, Duke after he made a campus visit last weekend.
“Getting to travel to so many different colleges and meet so many coaches has been an awesome experience,” said Burger, who has a 3.9 GPA and would like to be a doctor one day. “I wouldn’t have dreamt of being able to go on a college recruiting visit to a school like Vandy (Vanderbilt). This experience has been a blessing.”
Burger’s strong blocking for the Seahawks, whether they’re running the ball or passing, has helped spark an explosive offense that averages 382 yards per game and has scored the most points in TSSAA Division II-AA East Region play this season with 217.
The only knock on Burger so far is that he is “too nice” as his coaches want to see him show more nastiness in the trenches.
