A former truck driver for Covenant Logistics is representing herself in a lawsuit against the company, alleging it didn’t provide reasonable accommodations during a high-risk pregnancy.

Joya Farquharson, a North Carolina resident, joined the company around May, 1, 2024, as an over-the-road truck driver operating out of Chattanooga, the lawsuit said.

During her pregnancy, the lawsuit said, she experienced medical limitations, including anemia, and her pregnancy was deemed high risk by a medical provider. Anemia occurs when there isn’t enough hemoglobin in the body to carry oxygen to organs and tissues.

Beginning in July 2024, she verbally requested reasonable accommodations from Covenant Logistics, the lawsuit said. Those included more frequent breaks and shorter driving routes. Covenant denied her requests, the lawsuit alleges.
