The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the hanging death of a man on Friday at the McMinn County jail.
Gabriel Davis, 21, of Athens, Tenn., was an inmate at the jail. TBI agents were asked by 10th District Attorney General Steve Crump to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Davis’ body will be autopsied at the Regional Forensics Center in Knoxville and the investigation results will be provided to Crump for his office to review, according to a TBI news release.
The death comes less than two weeks after a similar incident in a neighboring county. On Sept. 18 Ralph Nelms, 41, was found hanging in a booking-area cell.
Nelms was the third person to die while in custody at the Bradley County Jail this year.
