A subsidiary of flooring maker Shaw Industries is suing a Chattanooga-based company, Tuftco, alleging it infringed on two patents associated with synthetic turf on athletic fields.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday, Shaw Integrated and Turf Solutions developed technology called Game On that enables teams to more seamlessly install logos, numbers and designs into a field. Columbia Insurance Co. is also a plaintiff in the case.

Using this product, design elements are tufted directly into a single, large continuous piece of turf rather than being manufactured separately and then inlaid by cutting and gluing.
