In a loss Saturday afternoon at Samford, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball coach Dan Earl expressed some frustration in his team’s lack of competitive effort.

Apparently that message was not received.

The Mocs put forth a second straight lackluster effort Thursday night and took a third consecutive loss as a result, with Wofford finishing the first half on an 18-0 run before cruising to an 81-55 win over the Mocs at McKenzie Arena. It’s UTC’s worst loss at home since falling 80-54 to Wofford on Feb. 28, 2019, when the Terriers were ranked 24th in the country on their way to an undefeated Southern Conference season and an NCAA tournament appearance in which they reached the second round.

This Wofford team isn’t that one — the Terriers improved to 15-7 overall and 7-2 in SoCon play while avenging a 76-67 home loss to UTC from Jan. 14 — but on Thursday they did something far better than the Mocs (9-13, 3-6), which was compete.
