U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Ooltewah, said he has faith in Pam Bondi continuing in her position as U.S. Attorney General following criticism about the Department of Justice’s handling of case files for the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Approached at an event at Chattanooga City Hall on Tuesday, Fleischmann did not directly answer a question about whether he was satisfied with Bondi’s congressional hearing last week.

The attorney general sparred with Democratic lawmakers about her department’s handling of the convicted sex offender, frequently blaming previous attorney generals or pointing to unrelated matters such as the stock market.

“I was not present for that,” Fleischmann said, “so I will refer to my friends and colleagues in that regard.”
