After the first day of trial, the city announced it would settle for $250,000 a lawsuit that accused a Chattanooga police officer of running a red light and hitting a motorist.
Shirley Trotter originally asked for almost $3 million, accusing officer Frisco Sherrill of negligently causing a wreck Dec. 16, 2022, leaving her with permanent injuries and forcing her into assisted living care for a time, court records said.
In response to the suit, the city denied liability and said Sherrill was responding to a shots-fired emergency with lights and siren activated around five seconds before driving through the intersection of Hickory Valley Road and Shallowford Road, according to court records.

Around one minute after receiving the call at 8:29 a.m., Sherrill activated the lights and siren on his patrol car. The officer said a glare prevented him from determining what color the traffic lights were, according to court records.
