With 812 strikeouts over the past four seasons, Chattanooga Christian senior left-hander Kylie Black has mastered the craft inside the pitching circle.

After dominating at last year’s Spring Fling with 35 strikeouts in three complete game victories to help the Lady Chargers win their first TSSAA state title, Black appears to be as strong as ever yet again.

The Lipscomb University signee showcased a nasty three-pitch mix with her riseball, curve, and changeup as part of a masterpiece in Thursday’s 1-0 Division II-AA East Region 2 road win over Baylor. Black allowed just two hits and walked two to go along with 11 strikeouts.

“Pitching has been my love ever since I was little,” said Black, who improved to 12-1 overall on the season with a 0.96 ERA and 134 strikeouts over 72 2/3 innings. “I remember in rec ball they were like, ‘Who wants to pitch?’ and I was like, ‘Do I get the ball every time?’ I wanted it.

“Pitching just became a love and one I have developed over time. It has been so much fun and provided so many great memories and opened some great avenues for me.”
