A new type of vending machine will provide needed essential items to local students for free.
The hygiene vending machine was installed this week at East Ridge Middle School and stocked with personal care items including soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and period products.
“Access to basic hygiene is fundamental to a student’s ability to learn, participate and feel a sense of belonging at school,” Dr. Joe G. Gerez, principal of East Ridge Middle School, said. “This vending machine ensures our students can meet those everyday needs with dignity and without disruption.”
The machine is made possible by Wellpoint Tennessee and Archie’s Promise.
“Too many students walk into school distracted by challenges they shouldn’t have to face,” said Rachel Chinetti, president of Wellpoint Tennessee. “We’re helping remove both the barrier and the stigma so students can feel confident and supported every day.”
