A normally easy-to-overlook race for two spots on the Executive Committee of the Tennessee Republican Party is highlighting differences among Hamilton County Republicans.

The state executive race for District 11, which covers part of Chattanooga, Soddy-Daisy and Harrison to Birchwood, is doubly contested. Incumbents David Queen and Tina Benkiser will each face challengers in August.

Queen will appear on the ballot against Derek Greene, husband of Gail Greene, the Hamilton County Republican Party chair. Benkiser will be challenged by Jane Armstrong, board member of the Chattanooga Republican Women’s Club, on the August ballot.

There are 66 members of the Executive Committee. One woman and one man are elected as representatives for the position from each of the 33 state Senate districts.

In 2022, Benkiser and Queen ran unopposed for their seats.
