For almost all of President Donald Trump’s decade in politics, even with all the chaos he’s imposed over the years — from the attempted insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, to a second term defined by economic turmoil and hollow imperial pursuits abroad — the president has maintained majority popular support in the Volunteer State.

That is, until now.

For the first time since December 2017, according to a recent poll from Vanderbilt University, the president’s approval rating in Tennessee fell below the 50% marker. At just 49%, the poll found support is down from the 56% reported in a November survey.

Democrats, of course, are driving the disapproval, while the loyal MAGA base, at upwards of 90% approval, is keeping the president afloat in the eyes of the average Tennessean.
