For the first time in the 21-year history of the MaxPreps.com high school football Top 25 rankings, a Chattanooga school has risen into the top 10 nationally.
Despite not playing this past weekend, Baylor School moved up one spot to No. 10 in the latest poll, which was released Monday.
With two wins over nationally-ranked opponents Brentwood Academy and Trinity (Ky.), Baylor moved up and also becomes the highest-ranked prep team ever from Tennessee. Montgomery Bell Academy peaked at No. 11 after finishing 13-0 in 2007, and Baylor had sat at No. 11 for the past four weeks.
After Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy lost 28-20 Saturday to St. James Performance Academy (Va.), the Panthers fell from No. 2 to No. 15, which opened a spot in the top 10.
“To have the recognition that no team in Chattanooga has ever had is special, but it’s not our goal,” Red Raiders head coach Erik Kimrey said Monday. “Our goal is to win the state championship again, but this recognition definitely speaks to the level of competition we’ve played and the level of consistency our team has played with each week.”
