After setting daily record highs of 90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, Chattanooga is forecast to notch another record Thursday before temperatures drop back into the 60s for the weekend.
“We’ve had a really strong upper ridge that’s kind of been parked over the area, and temperatures have been unusually warm for this time of year,” National Weather Service meteorologist Lyle Wilson said Wednesday afternoon by phone as he checked current readings. “I have 87 now, which ties the record.”
The record for Tuesday’s date was 88, set in 1954, and the record for Wednesday was 87, set the same year, until the thermometer got to a record-setting 90 this week. Thursday will probably be a repeat.

“Tomorrow’s record is 85,” Wilson said Wednesday, “so barring maybe some more clouds or something other than expected, it’s most likely going to break it again tomorrow.”
