Sean Cusano has gotten used to meeting new teammates.
In three-plus years with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball program, the 6-foot-9, 215-pound senior has shared a locker room with 43 of them, and 11 arrived this offseason alone.
“It’s been nice, though, meeting a bunch of new people and everything,” said Cusano, who’s from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, “but I do kind of wish we had some consistency.”
At this point, Cusano is the consistency. As the Mocs prepare to open their 2026-27 schedule Nov. 2 at Louisville, he is one of only seven men’s basketball players in the Southern Conference who are with their current program for at least a fourth season. In an era when the NCAA transfer portal reshapes rosters around the country every spring, that kind of staying power has become rare.
Still, while he has been with the Mocs throughout his collegiate career, he has not always been available. Injuries cut short two of Cusano’s first three seasons, including last winter, when a knee injury halted his junior campaign after six games. UTC coach Dan Earl said Cusano essentially missed two full seasons and dealt with other injuries on top of that.
