Good morning, Chattanooga!

With a mix of young talent and senior leadership, the volleyball team at Cleveland High School is hoping to have the right recipe for a winning title.

Their 36-11 record has granted them a spot in this year’s state tournament, a competition in which the school has never won more than one match – but this year’s team is hoping to change that. Players have spent all season preparing.

“The main things were being intentional, playing with grit and energy, along with trusting each other and valuing our time on the court together,” senior Mary B. Smith said.

Cleveland volleyball coach Amy McGowan believes that it is the team’s camaraderie that truly makes a difference.

“Everyone knows how good this team is playing together,” McGowan said. “What they don’t see is how much they love each other. That’s what is going to take you far. There are teams we have played who are just as talented as we are. It comes down to chemistry, who wants it more and who loves each other more.”
