Aryanna Gilbert has picked her spots this season to be effective for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team.
Thursday, those spots were right around the basket.
Gilbert had a season-high 10 points in the Mocs’ 67-46 win over Western Carolina, making all five of her shots. It’s the third time in her UTC career that she’s made all of her shot attempts (minimum five), and just like when she was 7-for-7 against Appalachian State on Feb. 8, 2014, and when she was 5-for-5 against East Tennessee State last season, a lopsided victory was the result.
But this season has been slightly different for the 5-foot-9 junior, who started 60 of her first 67 career games. She started coming off the bench after the Mocs’ third game, and aside from a three-game stretch in which fellow junior Chelsey Shumpert was out with an ankle injury, she’s changed her role.
“It was different at first, but now I get to sit back, get to see what’s working, what’s not working and what type of things are open,” Gilbert said. “It’s been different, but I feel it’s my job to bring whatever’s lacking in the game.”
