Route ’15: The Indians believe they gave a glimpse of things to come with their final three games last season. Though they went 1-2 in those games, the losses were to region champ Darlington by 13 points and to state-ranked Rabun County by just four in the playoffs. While Darlington figures to be in the mix again, the three remaining playoff spots are up for grabs; the Indians, with 17 starters back, believe they can get there again.

Taking the wheel: The Indians, as Coach Hammon quickly will attest, are a no-frills team that relies on a good running game and fundamental defense. The ground game is in good shape with the Foster boys. Junior RB Isaiah Foster ran for 1,185 yards and 10 touchdowns last year, while junior QB Isaac Foster added 732 and 14.

Cruise control: The team is strong in the skill positions, led by the Fosters (as well as senior Darian), DB/WR/KR Travel Bankston and CB/WR Nick Hawkins. Dee McCutchins, a 6-2, 220-pound TE/DE, is one of the team’s best athletes and will be used in several different ways. The team’s biggest improvement is in the trenches, with the line led by 6-3, 275-pound junior Mike Adams.

Pump the brakes: For the Indians to take the next step, the defense must improve. Chattooga gave up the second-most points in Region 7-AA a year ago, and with an offense heavily geared for the ground, the Indians are not a team geared to win many shootouts.
