Not all F.O.P endorsing Berke
Not all members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 22 endorse Mayor Berke for re-election, especially the retirees.
While leaving the extremely costly – in taxpayer money – D.R.O.P. program in place, the mayor approved reducing the annual cost-of-living increase that we were verbally promised from 3 percent to 1 1/2 percent.
Some officers served more than 30 years before retiring, and the 3 percent annual increase was relied on and needed. We had no reason to believe the mayor or pension board would cut our benefit in half.
There was nothing in writing, just a verbal agreement, and the federal courts have ruled against the retirees.
